As consumers become increasingly mindful of what they eat and drink, organic wine has risen to the forefront of the wine industry. People aren’t just looking for just great wines anymore; they’re looking for products that align with their values—wines that are healthier, truly environmentally friendly, and crafted with integrity. At Neal Vineyards, we’ve been at the forefront of this movement and have been for decades, producing certified organic wines that embody purity, sustainability, and exceptional quality.
Health Benefits of Certified Organic Wine
Choosing a certified organic wine isn’t just better for the planet—it’s better for you. Certified organic farming eliminates the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers and process harmful additives making the wine; meaning the wine in your glass is free from those harmful materials. This commitment to purity ensures that every sip of our wine is as clean and natural as possible. With our properties where our wine grapes are grown having been organic since 1966, this means that no synthetic chemicals are in the soils or applied to the vineyard. This means something important: healthier grapes, healthier wine.
Organic winemaking leads to wines with lower sulfite levels compared to conventionally produced wines. Organic wines embrace natural processes of sulfites that are developed from only the fermentation process, natural occurring sulfites that result from fermentation. This level is typically very low however needs to be below 100ppm to be labeled organic wine. The maximum levels with big box and or commercial wine can go as high as 350ppm.
While sulfites are a natural byproduct of fermentation, conventional and large production wines frequently include added sulfites to preserve shelf life. By contrast, our organic Napa Valley wines embrace natural processes, resulting in wines with balanced sulfite levels (this level need to be below 100ppm to be labeled organic wine) that are gentler on the body. There is always a lot of focus on the sulfites but organic farming and organic wine making processes have other benefits to wine.
Beyond sulfites, organic wines also avoid artificial additives, such as flavor enhancers and stabilizers, ensuring a taste that comes purely from the vineyard. This not only supports a healthier lifestyle but also enhances the authentic flavors that wine lovers cherish. Many wine enthusiasts report that organic wines feel lighter, cleaner, and are less likely to cause post-wine headaches.

With all the noise out there about our food system, I can see why there’s a big movement, trend towards eating, healthy, and utilizing all the organic food that you can. One of the most important things you have to remember, though Organic, Biodynamic® and Regenerative Organic® farmers can only provide organic raw ingredients. Processing ingredients can be a huge issue and dilute all the efforts. It’s important to look at labels understand them and know that the processing is organic as well. Even textiles that you buy there are certified or organic don’t wash them with Tide.
When it comes to wine and spirits, there is very few that certified organically farmed and processed support those farmers and those processors. At Neal Family Vineyards we are one of less than a half a percent that does that.
